Magento is ending support for all versions of its Magento 1 ecommerce platform as of 30 June 2020. Security patches and other software fixes for Magento 1 will not be provided any more.
A non-supported or updated software will be prone to security vulnerabilities, Magecart attacks and malicious malware.
PayPal and Visa are both recommending Magento 1 store owners to upgrade to Magento 2. You can find more information on the announcement here.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF STORE OWNERS CONTINUE TO USE MAGENTO 1 AFTER 30 JUNE 2020?
Magento 1 ecommerce will no longer be supported officially. Merchants’ sites integration with PayPal or other payment gateways will be out of compliance with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).
Requirement 6 of the PCI DSS requires merchants to "develop and maintain secure systems and applications by installing applicable vendor-supplied security patches." Without future security patches, Magento 1 merchants will not be able to meet this requirement and may become vulnerable to numerous threats.
IN THAT CASE, SHOULD STORE OWNERS UPGRADE/MIGRATE TO MAGENTO 2?
We strongly recommend that all store owners who are running Magento 1 sites upgrade/ migrate to Magento 2 for security and functional advantages.
There are plenty of benefits of migrating from Magento 1 to Magento 2 ecommerce shopping cart. Here are some key benefits of Magento version 2 as compared to Magento 1 for your business.
